I am an independent voice, trying to facilitate the movement to building residential homes in a more environmentally conscious (but economically efficient) manner. I am not employed, compensated or otherwise associated with any third parties involved with building products, services, government agencies, or non-profit advocacy groups. I offer practical and empirical information based on my personal experience building a zero net-energy home. As such, I promote green building, but am also free to challenge hypes or falsehoods associated with green building.

NetZero-HayfieldHouse.com is created to help demystify the design, material selection, construction, and costs of building a zero net-energy, all-electric, single-family house that also preserves the conservation values of the land. Hopefully this blog will encourage others to join in a similar quest. Architects, builders, material suppliers, homeowners and others may benefit from the lessons learned (and suggestions offered) from the perspective of a homeowner who actively participated in and/or led every phase of this net-zero project.
